Editor's Introduction
Article Outline
With this issue I begin my tenure as the new Editor-in-Chief of Current Problems in Pediatric and Adolescent Health Care. As a long-standing Associate Editor of the journal, I am well aware of the challenges inherent in this assignment. The journal has had an illustrious 38-year tradition of providing readers with detailed, comprehensive, timely and practical review articles of general pediatric interest, presented by leading authorities. For the past 11 years, under the outstanding leadership of my dear friend and colleague Virginia Moyer, MD, MPH, the Journal has placed an emphasis on rigorous, evidence-based literature review and has expanded the Editorial Board to achieve a more national perspective in the recruitment of authors for our journal articles.
Indeed, Dr. Moyer assembled a talented group of Associate Editors with whom I have had the privilege of working for a number of years. Their diverse areas of interest, their energy, and their pre-eminent reputations have directly resulted in the recruitment of outstanding authors who have provided the excellent content of this journal. I think this moment of transition presents a wonderful opportunity to re-introduce them all to you. Marilyn Dumont-Driscoll, M.D., Ph.D. is a highly regarded pediatric educator with a particular interest in residency training in continuity settings. Ruth Etzel, M.D., Ph.D. is an accomplished researcher, epidemiologist, and world-renowned authority on pediatric environmental health. Jack Pascoe, M.D., MPH is a talented and tireless general pediatrician with strong interests in child development, maternal depression, pediatric education, and epidemiology. Naomi Schapiro RN, MS, CPNP is an associate professor at the UCSF School of Nursing and well-recognized pediatric nurse-educator, with clinical and research interests in adolescent and school-based health, mental health and immigrant health.
As the journal moves forward, we expect to maintain its fundamental character while also being responsive to the demands of the modern reader of the medical literature. Over the coming months we expect to introduce some new and exciting features to the journal, including web-based resources, synopses, and other supplemental materials designed to make the information in our articles richer and more accessible.
Along with the Associate Editors and the publishing team at Elsevier, I look forward to ensuring that Current Problems in Pediatric and Adolescent Health Care continues to offer readers interesting and comprehensive information that is pertinent to daily pediatric practice, enhances professional experience, and is presented in the most accessible fashion. To that end, I would like to encourage you, our readers, to contact me directly with your comments and suggestions.
