PLEASE NOTE
The content of Current Problems in Pediatric and Adolescent Health Care is based on topics invited
by our Editorial Board. The editorial office does not routinely accept unsolicited manuscripts. However, if you have a topic of interest
to suggest please contact the Managing Editor, Angelica Kerr, at a.kerr@elsevier.com. Your suggestions will be passed
along to the Editorial Board for further consideration.
MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION
The requirements for manuscripts submitted
for the
Current Problems in Pediatric and Adolescent Health Care (CPPAH) conform to the "Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts
Submitted to Biomedical Journals" established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (Ann Intern Med 1997;126:36-47)
www.icmje.org. Certain requirements unique to the journal are provided below.
CONFLICT OF INTEREST
Authors are required to acknowledge on the title page of their manuscript all funding sources that
supported their work as well as all institutional or corporate affiliations of the authors. The title page must also include a publishable
statement disclosing any commercial associations, current and within the past five years, that might pose a potential, perceived or real
conflict of interest. These include grants, patent licensing arrangements, consultancies, stock or other equity ownership, advisory
board memberships, or payments for conducting or publicizing the study. This disclosure will be held in confidence during the peer review
process and will not influence any editorial decision. If the paper is accepted for publication, such relationships may be disclosed
in the Journal at the discretion of the Editor. When no competing interests are present, the publishable title page disclosure statement
should say so. The editor asks each reviewer to disclose any competing interests or to recuse oneself if a competing interest might
interfere with one's objectivity.
SUBMITTING MANUSCRIPTS ELECTRONICALLY
Manuscripts, including references, tables and
illustration legends, should be typed double-spaced with 1" margins. Number pages consecutively. Your submission should include the following;
a cover page, table of contents, an abstract (up to 300 words), the manuscript text, tables, figures, callouts and references. Please
submit the final version of the manuscript as an electronic (Microsoft Word preferred) file:
- Do not input special typesetting
codes. Elsevier will manage all design considerations for typefaces and page layout after the editorial office transfers an accepted
paper to the publisher
- You may use capabilities for bold, underline, italic, subscript and superscript. Text that will be italic
in published form (e.g., genus, species) may be keyboarded as italics or as underlined text.
- Only use a "hard return"(pressing
the enter key on the keyboard) to end a paragraph or for titles, headings, separate items in a list, etc. Rely on the software's word
wrap for all other line endings.
- Do not right justify or center text or heads.
- Be sure to key the letter "O," the
number "0," the letter "I, "and the number "1" correctly.
- Use only one space after colons or periods.
- Use default
hyphenation. Use two hyphens for long dashes.
- Key in the reference list at the end of the text. Do not use the footnote
of endnote feature to create references. This is crucial to enable Elsevier to access your files.
- Use the table format
or use only tabs, not spaces, to align columns in preparing tables.
LENGTH
Your manuscript should be between
50 and 70 manuscript pages, including tables, figures, and references (based on 250 words per double-spaced, typewritten page). References
should not exceed 200 entries. If you have problems regarding the size of your manuscript, contact the inviting editor early in the process.
ABSTRACT
We request that you submit an abstract (maximum of 300 words) that provides a concise summary of the article
focusing on its central theme or main points and implications for clinical practice. The format of your abstract may vary depending
upon the structure of the manuscript. The abstract should emphasize the scope of the topic, its epidemiology, pathophysiology, etiology,
clinical and laboratory evaluation, therapies and prevention; it should also include a synthesis of the implications for practice and
future research. An abstract for a systematic review of the literature should be formatted with the following subheadings: Background,
Methods (i.e., a description of study eligibility for inclusion in the review, quality assessment, data extraction, and data analysis),
Results and Conclusions. Should an alternative format design seem more appropriate for your abstract, please consult with the Editorial
staff.
TABLES
Each table should be organized logically, supplement the article, and be cited in the text. Each table should
have a title and be numbered in Arabic numerals. Make your column headings brief. Place footnotes to the tables at the bottom of the
table itself. Type each table on a separate sheet and insert all tables immediately after the reference section. If the table or any
part of it is taken from previously published material, its source must be indicated in a footnote with a full credit citation (e.g.,
"From Palmer HD, Murphy HS Jr. Expanding intracranial lesions in childhood, JAMA 1952;149:220. Reproduced by permission"), and written
permission must be obtained (see PERMISSIONS).
FIGURES (PHOTOGRAPHS, DRAWINGS, GRAPHS)
Figures must be of
professional quality and are encouraged to be submitted in an acceptable electronic format. The preferred electronic formats are as follows:
Compuserve GIF (.gif), JPEG (.jpg), Tagged Image File Format (.tif) or Encapsulated PostScript (.eps).
Figures may also be black
and white line art, graphs, halftones (photographs), or color. Line art should have a minimum resolution of 1000 dpi, halftone art a
minimum of 300 dpi, and combination art (line/tone) a minimum of 500 dpi. MS Office files (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) are also accepted
if they meet certain standards.
On occasion, original artwork is submitted. In this case, artwork must be prepared using professional
standards and should be submitted as camera-ready hardcopy prints. On the back of each figure of every set submitted to the Editorial
Office, indicate in pen the figure number, first author, short manuscript title, and the top of the figure. Enclose each set of prints
in a separate envelope. Publication of color illustrations in the print Journal will be charged to the author at a cost of $650 for the
first illustration and $100 for each additional illustration.
For help with preparing electronic artwork for both on-screen review
and eventual publication, visit the Elsevier's Author Artwork instructions page at: http://www.elsevier.com/wps/find/authors.authors/authorartworkinstructions
CALLOUTS
Authors should identify 3-5 key locations in the body of the article where it would be appropriate to insert
a "callout". This is a short phrase that appears in a larger font than the text of the article itself and stands out in order to highlight
the importance of a particular section, or to call attention to the existence of supplemental materials that may be available only in
the journal's on-line edition (see callout
sample). The author may wish to discuss the appropriate use and placement of callouts with the inviting editor.
REFERENCES
References (typed double-spaced) must be arranged sequentially, not alphabetically, and referred to sequentially in the text by superscript
numerals. If manuscripts contain sections, all section references must appear at the end of the manuscript not each individual section.
References should not exceed 200 entries. Do not assign a new number to the same reference used a second time, and do not assign
more than one reference to any number. When listing authors, the names of the first six authors are used, followed by "et al." Do not
use "and" between names. Information from manuscripts not yet accepted or from personal communications should be cited in parentheses
in the text. For all journal abbreviations, follow the style of Index Medicus.
Following are sample reference listings for
journal, book, and book chapter:

You must obtain permission from the copyright holder for all tables, illustrations or
long quotations borrowed from another source. You may use the enclosed permission request form for each of your requests. Attach
a copy of the material you intend to use to the completed request form before sending it to the copyright holder. Submit copies of
letters granting permission with your manuscript. (All quotations should be checked against the original for absolute accuracy).
Waivers must be obtained for the publication of photographs showing persons; eyes may be masked to prevent identification. Any and
all fees for the reproduction of materials are the responsibility of the author and must be paid prior to publication.
